On November 19th, in the charming setting of the city of Duino, our book From The Front, will open the Round Table of the Book Festival on the Great War with a multilingual performative reading by the students of the United World College.
The appointment is from 3 to 6 pm at the Cultural Institution Igo Gruden – Duino & Book, in which the book curator, Tancredi Artico, will moderate the discussion of experts and their research presentations and books on the Great War.
From The Front is a collection born with the purpose of investigating the reality experienced by all people who actively fought during the First World War. The decision to put together the testimonies of soldiers of different nationalities (Italy, Hungary, England, Canada, Belgium, Australia, Catalonia, Turkey, USA, France, Austria and Germany) has the aim of giving the reader a polycentric perspective about events, moreover it becomes an important occasion for meditation.
The reality of war was an universal experience made of deep disillusionment, bitterness and sometimes strong compassion for themselves and for all people sharing the same battle difficulties, even if from the enemy side. Disillusionment of ideals, irony towards official propaganda, perception and role of the body are just some of the many issues discussed in this volume, a work that highlighs the deep and authentic feelings reported on the paper.
In this occasion, the presentation of the volume will be part of a rich and stimulating event, indeed the whole festival offers an interesting week-end dedicated to several initiatives organized in order to remind and deepen the tragic experience of the Great War.
