The GO! Design Week draws to a close with a double special event on Saturday 15 March at the GO! Center in Gorizia.
The finissage of the diffuse exhibitions of fibre art, curated by IoDeposito within the Design Week organised by MuDeFri – Museo del Design del Friuli Venezia Giulia, offers a unique opportunity to meet artists, reflect on the themes of sustainability and textile tradition, and actively participate in a collective experience of repair and care of objects. Three appointments connected by the red thread of ecological awareness and community involvement.
“Threading & REPAIR-A-THON” with Saša Nemec
10.00-1.00 pm – Sala Kubo, 1° floor
(In good weather: GO! Centre courtyard)
Corso Verdi 51, Gorizia
In parallel, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the GO! Centre will host a collective ‘Repair-a-thon’ with artist and activist Saša Nemec. A mending and repair event open to the community, inviting participants to bring clothes to be repaired free of charge. In addition to the practical dimension, the meeting will also be a moment of reflection on collaborative art practices, the value of care and the link between fabric, identity and sustainability.
Saša Nemec will guide those present through the repair process, using needle, thread, sewing machine and multimedia supports to stimulate dialogue. The event aims to emphasise how mending is not just a gesture of recovery, but a community art practice that brings with it memories, emotions and possible changes in mentality.
The activity is free and open to the whole family, with translation available in several languages.

“Breakfast with the artists!” / “Ripening”
10.30 am – Sala Kubo, 1° floor
(In good weather: GO! Centre courtyard)
Corso Verdi 51, Gorizia
The day will open with an informal and stimulating encounter: a breakfast-conversation with artists Vita Ivičić and Mateja Kavčič, in dialogue with Zala Orel, director and founder of the BIEN textile art biennial. At the centre of the discussion is the spatial installation ‘Ripening’ (2022), a work that explores the relationship between nature, weaving and transience.
The installation highlights the connection between solar energy and natural textile materials, reflecting on how the production and use of textiles have influenced human history. The work consists of wooden ‘pegs’ exposed to the elements for years and hand-spun linen threads, cultivated in the fields of Carniola Bianca in the summer of 2022 with the involvement of more than 80 citizens. An example of how art can recover traditional knowledge and dialogue with ecological actuality.
During the event, in addition to an in-depth reflection on ‘Ripening’, anticipations on the next initiatives of the BIEN programme, the official project of the GO! 2025 Bid Book, will be presented.
The meeting is free of charge and available in several languages.

10.00 am – 5.00 pm – Carinarnica, Erjavčeva ulica 53, Nova Gorica
Also on Saturday 15 March, at Carinarnica, one of the venues of the diffuse exhibition of fibre art, there will be a day of free guided tours from 10 am to 5 pm. The exhibition route of this second chapter of the exhibition, ‘Memory and Production. For an organic rebellion between the cross-border territory and the African renaissance’, explores the link between architecture, memory and sustainability, bringing the cross-border historical-industrial landscape into dialogue with contemporary fibre art.
The visits will be led by artist-in-residence Tamara Mihalič and will be available in several languages.
The activity is free and open to the whole family, with translation available in several languages.
