The European ReIMAGINE project was launched with the aim of analysing and innovating practices of historical memory, using art as a catalyst for social change. Through transnational research involving five partner countries (Austria, Italy, Portugal, Serbia and Cyprus), we have mapped the current state of commemorative policies, identifying ‘narrative gaps’ and the frequent exclusion of minorities from institutional historical narratives.
The presentation below visually summarises the pillars of our participatory methodology, which combines focus groups, artistic co-creation and dialogue between institutions, educators and artists. Each slide illustrates the current challenges and concrete opportunities for transforming collective memory into a democratic, open and pluralistic space.
