On the banks of the River Isonzo, beneath the Sagrado Bridge, the Land Art installation ‘Cose di Casa’ marks a key meeting point between art, materials and the local area.
Conceived by the conceptual artist and architect Guido Mitidieri as part of the Peripheral Memories project, the work takes shape from the combination of 550 fir wood elements — offcuts from the initial stages of local timber processing known as ‘buccioni’ — recovered and shaped through a co-creative process involving young people from the local community.
The wooden pieces, fitted together and layered by hand without any mechanical fastenings, form a circular structure 11 metres in diameter, culminating in a central core marked by the effect of charcoal burning. Situated in an area subject to the natural flood cycle of the Isonzo, the work embraces the transience of time, blending into the river landscape before being reabsorbed by nature itself.
In this video, Guido Mitidieri explores the genesis of this symbolic architecture, the choice of raw material and his reflections on the archetype of the home as a place of shelter and contemplation.
The artwork is freely viewable along the banks of the River Isonzo near the car park by the bridge at Sagrado, where it will remain on display until the autumn and winter months, when the river’s currents will transform its appearance.
The project experience also continues in Trieste, at the ‘Foresta in Città’ venue at 1 Via Muratti, where the exhibition dedicated to the project brings together the photographic diary, aerial drone footage and documentary videos of the construction site.
