MEET THE B#SIDE ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE! Open day @the residence/Villa Manin

EDITION 2016/2017

The 29th March, from 03.00 to 05.00 PM, the residencies will be open to receive the press and, from 05.00 to 07.00 will take place a follow-up meeting open to the participation of the public on the site-specific artistic practices in connection to the memory of the war (the participation is free, reservation is requested: info@iodeposito.org)

The B#Side War Festival, in collaboration with ERPAC, enhances its cultural program and its processes of artistic creation inaugurating an important project of residencies: in occasion of the exhibition Embodied memory the artists Ting Bao AND Chao Shagguan (China), Ana Mrovlje and Boris Beja (Slovenia), Nathalie Vanheule (Belgium), Nicolas VamvoukLis (Greece), Cosima Montaovoci (Italiy) have been selected for a period of residence, dedicated to the memory of the conflicts as main issue, that will take place in the suggestive location of Villa Manin di Passariano, from March to April 1st 2017. The artists have been accompanied by 2 curators, the Taiwanese Ting-Chi Wang and Elisa Torchio.

The aim of the residencies is the creation of site-specific artworks with different medias (photography, interactive installation, sound art, multimedia, light art and visual poetry) able to catalyze the substrate of our historical memory, reflecting on the forms and languages in which this memory embodies – directly or indirectly. The residence takes inspiration from the main topics of the exhibition: the materialization and dematerialization of our conflictual past, hold within the collective memory.

The artworks will be presented to the audience during the opening’s talk with the artists in occasion of the Vernissage of the exhibition on Saturday 1st April 2017 at 06.00 PM

EDITION 2017/2018

The “B#side War Artist” program, between the 2017 and the 2018 welcomed 2 news artists.
Anne O ‘Callaghan reached Italy to work on the topic of the nuclear bomb, exposing her artworks in the “After Hiroshima” exhibition, and the Irish artist Jane Glynn were the protagonists of a long seasonal stay on the Carso Upland.

Both photographers, experimenting with photographic techniques on the prevalent themes of our current research, namely:
• For Anne O ‘Callaghan, the theme of the atomic and its imaginary, with an exhibition at the “After Hiroshima” exhibition at the B # S Gallery in Treviso;
• For the Irish photographer Jane Glynn, a research on the Carso plateau (between the cities of Trieste, Gorizia, Nova Gorica, Fogliano, Monfalcone), devoting herself to a reportage on the historicized territory of the plateau. The report was previewed as part of the “Memory Lands” exhibition, which opened November 10.

 

EDITION 2018/2019

  • The visual artists Clare Charnley reached Treviso for a site-specific residency in collaboration with the city museums;
  • The performer Ruchi Anadkat reached our headquarter with her family, in order to adapt and prepare a new version of the performance 12×2 actions.
  • The performer Marta Lodola reached our headquarter in January, with the photographer Karsten Hainst, in order to elaborate and prepare a new version of her “Beaking Point” action;
  • The Programm is still ongoing, we are waiting for Eric Markowsky, from June 16th, 2019!
